Frontcover 12
On this magazine front cover i feel as though the most outstanding feature is the photograph. I think because it overlaps the masthead which is breaking convention and is the largest feature on the cover so is eye catching first.
The masthead is in the top quarter and it is bold red on a white background. The masthead is a san serif font, i would consider using this style font on my magazine, as i believe it looks very neat and clear and it easy to read.
In total there is 7 cover stories on this front cover. Most of the cover stories are different sizes, but they all follow the house style of white, yellow or red. I feel these colours are the house style as they are the only colours used on the magazine cover and are repeated over and over.
This magazine i believe is meant to appeal to men. I feel this is because of the colours that have been used and there is nothing on the cover that usually lures women into buying a magazine. Also there is nothing specifically on the cover for women e.g. fashion, makeup and gossip, so i feel this appeals more to men.
A pug is used in the top right corner. This is advertising reviews that are inside on groups like 'The Beatles'. The pug is bright red with white, black and yellow writing, this feature is also very eye catching as the black and white of the central image is also outstanding but brightness of the pug stands out against it. Also there is two puffs used. The puffs are black circles with yellow writing in, these stand out back of the boldness of the black with the yellow makes them very eye catching. One of the puffs is advertising a "free CD" this will lure buyers in as with the magazine they are giving away free CDs which you can see is attached to the front cover.
The image relates to the headline because you the headline is the name of the band shown in the image. The photograph fills the whole page and the top of it acts as a background to the rest of the cover. All four of the models are looking into the camera, this gives the magazine a personal feel as it looks like the models are personally looking at the buyer.
The shot type used is a longshot as you can see the feet of some of the models. The group is arranged with the shortest at the front and the tallest at the back. The background is clear and in focus but mainly it is being covered by cover stories. The image is in black and white which gives it a vintage feel. The photo has also been taken in a location but there was no props used.
Factors from this cover that i like is the use of three colours all over the cover, as i feel it gives the magazine an interesting look.

A good post Amy. You need to go through and highlight subject terminology. Try and add theory too. Think about representations.
