The double page spread begins on page 74 and concludes on page 77. The full article is approximately 3000 words. This dps appeals to an older audience, although the layout of this dps may appeal to a younger audience.
Media theorist David Morley suggests that media texts appeal to people of different social groups and that the media is changed by the change in society. Morley's theory is reflected in this dps as it has a very vintage style which will appeal to an older social class.
The double page spread has one column of magazine covers, and then there are two more images under the first to columns of text. Finally there is a large photograph of Bobby Vee on the second page of the double page spread. The large photograph of Bobby Vee looks very vintage as it is in black and white, this creates a vintage feel. Also the images in the column look vintage and old fashioned, compared to magazine covers nowadays. Bobby Vee is looking directly into the camera which makes the article look more personal to the reader.
The article is divided up into four columns. Dividing the article into columns breaks up all the text and makes the double page spread more interesting. The font size used on this double page spread is size 10. The main image on the double page spread is a close up as you can only the the models head and the top of his shirt. The background for this double page spread is plain white, this makes the images of magazine covers stand out greatly. The main shot is taken in a studio as there is no interesting background.
On this double page spread i feel there is quite a lot of white space. I don't like plain spaces as i feel it makes the spread look plain. For my magazine i want to make sure that there is not a lot of white plain space as i feel it looks unprofessional.
Down the left hand side there is a blue column, i like this idea as i feel it breaks up the plain white background. On top of the box is the images of old vintage music magazines. I like this idea and it makes the magazines also stand out amongst the text and plain background.
From this double page spread i like the idea of a big black and white image as i feel it creates a vintage feel, this is something i will consider using in my magazine double page spread.
