Planning images for my photoshoot ideas.
I like this photograph of this model. For my magazine my ideas are to use a girl group that are vintage themed and bringing vintage music back. On my photo shoot i had the idea of giving each of my models a personality. The model on the left was told to look posh. I like the way this image looks as she looks happy but without smiling. Also i feel that the makeup, hair and costume all look good and portray the vintage feel.
This is my favourite photo from the shoot. I feel this image would make a good photo for the front cover of my vintage music magazine. The model is looking directly into the camera which gives a personal feel to the magazine. Also the models pose is very typical of the era. The personality asked to be portrayed by this model was cheeky and fun, I feel the model posed perfectly for this personality. The makeup used for the model is all very natural looking apart from the lipstick used which matches the colour of the dress. For this image i am going to make it black and white and leave the dress and flower in colour, as i feel this will create a typical vintage look.
This image of the model is more of a natural shot to the previous one of this model. This is because this photo looks more natural as the model is smiling and is sat comfortably on the chair. Even though the model has changed position and expression on her face she still is portraying the posh characterisation.
For this shot i completely changed the angle that the model was sat at. I like the use of the model looking over her shoulder as it makes it look interesting and is different from the others from the shoot. In this photograph i feel the hair, makeup and costume all work well together. The hair is a typical vintage style with the use of curls and the brightness of the lipstick matches the brightness dress with bold pattern. The dress is also a good symbol of vintage fashion due to the style and the bold patterns that are used.
This shot again is a very natural shot. The model is looking directly into the camera and has a natural smile. The personality that this model was given was flirty. I feel this has been portrayed well but i have some more ideas for this personality.
This photo is a different style to all the previous shots. This is because the model is sitting on the floor. I find this shot interesting as it is the same as the close up for this model but at a further distance so you can see all of the model. This is a longshot as the features on the model are not clear. This type of shot would be good for the front cover as I could put text on the front cover without covering the image of the model. For my next shoot i am going to recreate this shot with a location background. I feel the use of a location shot for this image is what it needs to make it look more interesting than a studio background which is what is used.
This shot is also a longshot because you can see all of the model. On this photo i like the costume use of a flower on the models wrist as it matches the rest of the models costume. I feel again that for this shot a location background is needed. This is because there is alot of white space around the outside of the model. The personality given to this model was happy. I feel the personality given to this model was well created.
I like this photo better of this model. This is because the model is portraying the personality very well and the hair, makeup and costume all work really well and incorporate the vintage look which i am creating. The model is also looking directly into the camera which creates a very personal feel. The model is also a naturally smiling which makes the image look natural and not forced.
For my magazine i also want a group picture of the models as they are portraying a vintage girl band. I like this shot of the models because they are all grouped together and actually look together. Also all the models are smiling naturally which makes them look friendly and interesting. I feel in this photograph the costumes, hair and makeup all work together and complement the vintage theme very well together.

This shot i also find interesting because it is a different shoot and angle to the other photos taken on the shoot. The model looks interested and is holding a pose that was used alot in the vintage era. For this photo i would edit it so that only the dress and flower are in colour, i feel this will make the photo more interesting and appeal to a vintage target audience.
These are the best photos that i got from my shoot. To improve for my next shoot i am going to take the photos at a location instead of a studio. Taking them in a location will give them a more interesting background and will make the photos look more professional on my magazine. But from this shoot i can see that i like the idea of the vintage style dresses, i feel that they work well together and will create the vintage look that i am going to create.

Double page spread 5
This double page spread is from a Vintage Rock magazine.
On this double page spread there are two columns of text. The most outstanding feature on this double page spread it the large image of a record. The image fills one side of the spread and follows on to the second page. The section where the text is does fill it in width. The text is left aligned on both of the columns.
On this double page spread the headline is in three different colours. Black, white and purple are all used in the headline for different words.m I feel that the use of three colours make the headline eye catching against all the other text, this is something i would consider using for my double page spread.
The headline of the dps is "In search OF THE FIRST Rock 'n' Roll Record" the picture links to the headline because the image is a photo of a record laid on top of lots of record cases. Also on top of the record there is a photograph of a group of people, which could the record they are looking for.The article also states how people are searching for the very first rock n roll record that was produced.
This double page spread appears to be modern vintage. I think this because of the use of bright colours and different texture looking patterns. I like the idea of vintage magazines looking like this, this dps has inspired me towards some ideas for my vintage music magazine. The colours on this double page spread are all bright and work well together.
Factors from this double page spread i will consider using is the large image of the record laid on top of all the record cases, i feel this gives a very vintage theme but with a modern twist. I feel as though this will interest a younger target audience into reading vintage magazines.

Contents 5
On this magazine contents page there is no logos/brands to identify the magazine.
This contents page is advertising 23 different articles. Some of the articles are listed via a picture of what the article are about, and others are in a list format, listing all the different articles.
Four of the photos used on this contents page have been taken in a studio. You can tell this due to the plain colour backgrounds, whereas the one of the other photos is a location and the other two are album covers. I like the use of different images on a contents page as i feel this makes the contents page look more interesting and appealing to the audience.
This cover links to the vintage genre as all the photos look dated and the artists are not modern artists that are popular nowadays. I believe this is targeted at an older audience as there is not many colours or bright sections that will be outstanding and interest a younger target audience.
Out of all the pictures in only two shots the model/models are looking into the camera. One of the other shots is a highly staged shot and the other two are action shots as the artist is playing/ singing their music. The group is arranged by some of the men sitting and then others standing behind them.
The image of this artist is showing her standing up proud. She is dressed very upper class and looks independent. The photos are arranged in a collage format, as not all the pictures are the same size but all slot well together. And the list of contents is in list format straight down the page and all the text is left aligned.
The page numbers for the pictures article are in a bold white text over the picture. I like the use of white as it is easily readable over the picture, and is eye catching to the reader. The page numbers are placed randomly in the corners of the pictures.
On this contents page there is not a lot of white space. I like that fact there is not a lot of white space as it makes the magazine look full and busy. The only white space on this contents page is behind the contents list, but this is used well so the list can easily be read by the buyer.
From this contents page i will consider using the way the photographs are collaged as i feel it makes the page look interesting to the reader, due to a selection of pictures in different sizes.

Frontcover 12
On this magazine front cover i feel as though the most outstanding feature is the photograph. I think because it overlaps the masthead which is breaking convention and is the largest feature on the cover so is eye catching first.
The masthead is in the top quarter and it is bold red on a white background. The masthead is a san serif font, i would consider using this style font on my magazine, as i believe it looks very neat and clear and it easy to read.
In total there is 7 cover stories on this front cover. Most of the cover stories are different sizes, but they all follow the house style of white, yellow or red. I feel these colours are the house style as they are the only colours used on the magazine cover and are repeated over and over.
This magazine i believe is meant to appeal to men. I feel this is because of the colours that have been used and there is nothing on the cover that usually lures women into buying a magazine. Also there is nothing specifically on the cover for women e.g. fashion, makeup and gossip, so i feel this appeals more to men.
A pug is used in the top right corner. This is advertising reviews that are inside on groups like 'The Beatles'. The pug is bright red with white, black and yellow writing, this feature is also very eye catching as the black and white of the central image is also outstanding but brightness of the pug stands out against it. Also there is two puffs used. The puffs are black circles with yellow writing in, these stand out back of the boldness of the black with the yellow makes them very eye catching. One of the puffs is advertising a "free CD" this will lure buyers in as with the magazine they are giving away free CDs which you can see is attached to the front cover.
The image relates to the headline because you the headline is the name of the band shown in the image. The photograph fills the whole page and the top of it acts as a background to the rest of the cover. All four of the models are looking into the camera, this gives the magazine a personal feel as it looks like the models are personally looking at the buyer.
The shot type used is a longshot as you can see the feet of some of the models. The group is arranged with the shortest at the front and the tallest at the back. The background is clear and in focus but mainly it is being covered by cover stories. The image is in black and white which gives it a vintage feel. The photo has also been taken in a location but there was no props used.
Factors from this cover that i like is the use of three colours all over the cover, as i feel it gives the magazine an interesting look.
Double page spread 4
The double page spread begins on page 74 and concludes on page 77. The full article is approximately 3000 words. This dps appeals to an older audience, although the layout of this dps may appeal to a younger audience.
Media theorist David Morley suggests that media texts appeal to people of different social groups and that the media is changed by the change in society. Morley's theory is reflected in this dps as it has a very vintage style which will appeal to an older social class.
The double page spread has one column of magazine covers, and then there are two more images under the first to columns of text. Finally there is a large photograph of Bobby Vee on the second page of the double page spread. The large photograph of Bobby Vee looks very vintage as it is in black and white, this creates a vintage feel. Also the images in the column look vintage and old fashioned, compared to magazine covers nowadays. Bobby Vee is looking directly into the camera which makes the article look more personal to the reader.
The article is divided up into four columns. Dividing the article into columns breaks up all the text and makes the double page spread more interesting. The font size used on this double page spread is size 10. The main image on the double page spread is a close up as you can only the the models head and the top of his shirt. The background for this double page spread is plain white, this makes the images of magazine covers stand out greatly. The main shot is taken in a studio as there is no interesting background.
On this double page spread i feel there is quite a lot of white space. I don't like plain spaces as i feel it makes the spread look plain. For my magazine i want to make sure that there is not a lot of white plain space as i feel it looks unprofessional.
Down the left hand side there is a blue column, i like this idea as i feel it breaks up the plain white background. On top of the box is the images of old vintage music magazines. I like this idea and it makes the magazines also stand out amongst the text and plain background.
From this double page spread i like the idea of a big black and white image as i feel it creates a vintage feel, this is something i will consider using in my magazine double page spread.
Contents page 4
In total on this contents page there is 15 stories. There is four sections to this contents page, there is the list of contents, the main feature of the magazine which has a photograph, the 'Q' review and then the every month section.
The 'Q' matches the masthead on the front cover, also the house style is the same. There is altogether three columns of text. Also there is two images that have been taken in locations, one is of a boy group and the other of a single man.
The page numbers are the same size as the title of the articles but they are different by being in a different colour. The page numbers are in red whereas the rest of the text is in black.
On this magazine cover there is only white space behind the list of contents, i like that there is not a lot of white space as it makes it look interesting and busy when there is not much white space.
The 'Q' logo is used twice on this contents page, its used at the top for 'Q contents' and at the bottom of the page for 'Q Review'. I like the repetition of the 'Q' as i feel it also links the contents page back to the front cover. Bauer is the publishers of Q magazine.
I believe the target audience for this magazine is an older audience as the contents page is not very colourful so will not appear to a younger target audience.
front cover 11
Vintage Rock magazine.
From this magazine i feel the most outstanding feature of this cover is the image. I feel this is because the whole front cover is in colour apart from the main central image which is in black and white which is stereotypical for vintage.
The masthead on this magazine is in the top quarter and is white against a red background. The font of this masthead is san serif as it looks neat and bold. I like the style of this masthead and i feel it suits the vintage genre, this masthead inspires me for the masthead on my vintage magazine.
On this cover there are 5 cover stories. Three of the cover stories used are in the same size and font, but two of the cover stories are mainly shown by pictures. The headline is in a bigger font than the other stories and " ROCKABILLY QUEEN" is in yellow which makes it even more eye catching to the reader.
There is a banner along the top of the magazine. In the right hand corner of the magazine there is a pug. The pug says " The genius of Ray Charles" this will lure in readers as they will want to find out what Ray Charles has done that has made him a genius.
The main colour scheme used on this magazine is red, yellow and white. These colours i feel work well together as red is the background which makes the yellow and the white stand out together. Also only four features on the magazine are shown in yellow, i feel this makes them stand out and they may be important features.
From the cover i believe that the magazine is mainly featured at women, as the main article is about Wanda Jackson and how she is a rockabilly queen, which would interest other women. But i also feel Laura Mulveys theory of 'male gaze' is used her. As the model on the front has been made up and had her hair done and has been made to look attractive and this will appeal to a male audience.
There is a puff in the bottom corner above the barcode. The puff is advertising that there is an album review in the magazine. The magazine quality is clear and it feels of a good quality.
The model that has been used looked directly into the camera, this is making the magazine look more personal as though the model is looking at the buyer. The shot type used is a medium close up and the pose is turning in to look at the camera and smiling. The photo has been taken in black and white which suits the vintage genre. Also the image has been manipulated by being taken of it original background and placed onto the red checked background. The model is dressed to represent the genre and her hair has been also made to look vintage by creating a pin up hairstyle.
For my magazine i would consider using the idea of colours and then a black and white feature, i like this as it suits the vintage genre but adds a modern twist to it.

Double page spread 2
This is a double page spread from a 'Q' magazine about the Kate Bush then and Kate Bush now.
The whole article is approximately 2000 words. This dps appeals to an older audience, this is because it is showing Kate Bush in the 70s. But this article may also appeal to Kate Bush fans nowadays who was not alive in the 70s and keen to learn about her in the past. I feel this article has a double audience as it appeals to people from the 70s and also appeals to the newer fans of Kate Bush.
David Morley suggests that media texts appeal to people of different social classes and are influenced by social change. This dps is certainly reflected here as this dps has a very vintage feel about it which will appeal to an older social group.
The dps has a large image that fill one A4 side and follows over slightly onto the second page of the dps. This image is of Kate Bush in the 70s and she is a vintage artist. Kate stands out in this photograph of her as she is standing in front of a plain grey wall which contrasts against the green leotard that she is wearing. The outfit worn by the model highly reflects the era that this article is based around. The images that are used are highly reflective of the target audience that this double page spread is targeted at because of the costume and hair that have been used, also that the photo is a genuine photo from the 70s. The image used is a medium shot.
On the dps there is two columns of text. Both the columns are left aligned. Throughout the whole article there is one drop capital at the very beginning of the article. Between the columns there is 1 cm of space and the columns are separated with a line which goes down the middle. At the end of the article there is three images. Two of the images are of Kate Bush and the third image is of her album cover. This show a different view of Kate as the main photograph of the article was taken in photoshoot where it is staged, whereas the large image at the end is a natural image where Kate is performing.
The headline of the article is in front of the main image. The headline is in a large font which is bold to make it an even more outstanding feature. The text is is white which makes it eye catching against the dull grey background.
The main image of this article follows conventions as the model is looking directly into the camera. The pose that Kate is holding suggests that she is strong with the hands on the belt which is on her waist. The background of the photograph is dull which draws the readers attention to the artist. The location to me suggests a studio where Kate is rehearsing, linking to the 70s style costume. Perkins said " Stereotypes are not simple" i feel that this image is stereotypical of a vintage magazine as it has the 70s theme leotard and hairstyle. But i feel that because this image is stereotypically it will appeal to the older target audience of people who was around in the 70s.

Contents page 3
This is a contents page of a vintage 'Q' magazine.
On this contents page it is advertising 8 articles that are inside this magazine. This contents page is split up into 6 sections. Splitting up the contents make this page look more interesting. This is because the information is displayed in different formats which gives variation to this page.
This magazine contents page is set up differently compared to others. This is because there is no clear definition into columns. They have chosen to create one large box which is separated into different sections and then there is the 'Q Review' which is a different section and then there is the 'Plus' section at the bottom of the contents page.
In total this contents page has 7 different photographs. Putting a photograph next to the article it is linked with is something i would consider using. This is because if the reader buys the magazine they may be unsure of some of the artists inside it, but with the use of pictures it gives a clearer view of who the articles.
The sizes of page numbers used on this contents page vary, this makes it look more interesting. There is six different sizes of page numbers used. I also like how they have used different colours for the puffs that the page numbers are on. In my magazine on my contents page i may consider using different colours for the puffs that the page numbers are on as it makes it more them more outstanding.
The 'Q' magazine logo features twice in there contents page. It features in the masthead and it also features for the 'Q Review'. I personally like the idea of the 'Q Review' as it lets the magazine producers give there opinions and thoughts on things that are happening in the music industry.
All 7 of the photographs on this contents page are different. They are all taken in different places. Four of the photographs are studio shots and the other three are location shots. The location the photograph is taken depends on the genre of the article and what the article is about.
The publishers of 'Q' magazine are Bauer.
The images used on this page link to the genre of this magazine as they all look old fashioned and dated. They have created the vintage theme by using vintage style clothing.
Front cover magazine research 10
This Q magazine is the magazine that introduces the comeback of Kate Bush!
The masthead on this magazine is the most outstanding feature. I feel this because most of the cover is black, white and other dark colours, which makes the brightness of the red stand out massively. The masthead is in the top left and is a bold white 'Q' on top of a bright red square. The masthead is in a san serif font, i like san serif as i feel it looks neat and bold.
I feel that the headline on the magazine is another outstanding feature. The text "KATE BUSH" is written in a bright white font and is bold. This feature is a great idea for attracting the audiences eye from the shelf. I feel that this is a feature i would consider using on my magazine as it is outstanding and will attract the target audience. The font for this is also san serif.
On the cover of this magazine there is 4 cover stories and then the main story on Kate Bush. 3 of the cover stories down the side of the cover are the same size and the same font, but the first cover story under the masthead is different to the others. This cover story is 3 cover of magazines with text underneath, this is a very interesting feature as it makes the cover of the magazine more interesting and appealing to the reader. Also i like the idea of having one of the cover stories in a different format to it being just text, this is something i may use when i create my vintage magazine.
The font style represents the genre of the magazine because it is clean and neat. This magazine is vintage and this would appeal to the older target audience as it looks neat and is not to outstanding that it takes away from the image and headline of Kate Bush.
On this magazine there is a banner which goes all across the top. This banner is not the usual banner as it is just text and has no box around it. I feel because the banner is just writing it makes it a more outstanding feature. Also the brightness of the white and the bold features stand out against the darkness of the top of the photograph.
On the cover the main colours used are black and white but with a feature colour of orange of the artists jacket. The use of just one colour adds a lot of effect onto the cover and it looks very artistic and eye catching. I feel that the magazine is made to appeal to mainly females but i also feel that Laura Mulvey's theory of 'male gaze' is used in this photoshoot of Kate Bush. I believe that Kate Bush is doing this for 'Male gaze' i believe this because this is not the usual look you see from her and the image is designed to show Kate's features to make her appeal to the male audience. The image is an extremely artistic to look at as most of her body is under water. The photo is a high image shot and the model is looking directly into camera which makes the magazine more personal. Another feature i like about that magazine is that her clothes and hair just flow around her due to the water which gives it some natural aspects. The main article on Kate is to show her resurfacing to the music industry, i find this interesting because the image is of Kate surfacing to the top of the water which is a symbol for her resurfacing to the industry.
The photograph used is a clear link to the headline. This is due to the headline and the image being the same person as the main feature of the magazine is about the change in Kate Bush "then and now". Kate Bush is looking directly into the camera, this gives a very personal feel to the magazine as it looks as though the artist is looking at the buyer. The shot of Kate is a medium shot as you can see the waist upwards. I feel as though the image has been manipulated because Kate's face is very bright and clear and is a clear outstanding feature against the dark water background. The background used for this shoot is water, this is very unusual but it suggests to me that Kate is making a come back to the music industry like floating back to the top of the water. The image is taken in colour. The model is wearing vintage clothes that represent the genre. Hair and makeup that have been used for this shoot look very natural.
The magazine is advertising free music for 60 days. This is a good device to lure people in to make them interested in the magazine.
Elements i particularly like that i might use for my magazine is the use of one colour that clearly stand out against the rest, and also that the headline is a lot bigger than the cover stories which makes it more luring to the target audience.

Target audience research, word cloud
This is a word cloud I have created, this is full of all words that relate to my target audience. My target audience is people from 15- 30 years old. I thought I need things that they are interested in so I have an idea of what to include in my magazine. I am targeting both genres because I feel that modern magazine producers are looking to appeal to both genders.
How this has influenced my ideas-
- I know what kind of things appeal to my target audience
- I know what my target audience is
- I have an idea of how to attract each gender

Double page spread analysis 1
The first thing i think of when i see the double page spread is about the "male gaze". I feel this because Lily Allen is shown as a rock chick her which is not her usual gender. Also she is shown on a motorbike which does not relate to her style of music.
The house style of this double page spread is black, grey and punk. But one thing i found interesting is the use of colour on the red shoes. I like this feature and this is something i would consider doing in my magazine.
The use of the quote in a san serif o font makes it eye catching and stands out against the dull background with block black. Also underneath the quote is text explaining what the article is about.
From this double page spread i am going to consider using the idea of everything black, grey and white and then the feature of colour. As i feel this is modern and interesting.
Magazine contents page analysis 2
This is a contents page for a Jazzwise magazine.
I feel that this magazine has got a vintage feel and look about it.
I feel the most outstanding feature on this magazine contents page is the photograph. The shot is a medium close up and the model is looking directly into the camera, this makes the image more personal.
The pages contents page house style is cream with a purple colour. The purple on the cover ties in with the colour of the models lipstick which makes them link.
The contents is in two colloms 'Regulars' and 'Features'. This separates the contents into appropriate categories. In the Regulars' list there is 12 articles. Also on the 'Features' list there is 5 features.
I like that this magazine has certain features that are in the magazine every time it is published, i also like that everything the magazine shows the different features against the item usually in the magazine.
There is also a banner along the bottom of the magazine. This is advertising that more information can be found on the website. This is an interesting feature that the contents page uses.
The masthead of the magazine is at the top of the contents page, this links the contents page to the frontcover of the magazine. Also the date on the contents page makes it clear which issue it is.

Vintage magazine analysis 9
Masthead-
On this magazine i feel the main outstanding feature is the masthead. I feel this is the most eye catching as it is a different colour to the background. The masthead is in an old fashion font and is serif. Also on this cover which is interesting is behind the masthead there is a bar of music. I like this feature as it adds to cover and makes it more interesting. Also it is a symbol as it is music notes and that is a symbol that is is a music magazine.
The puff-
On the cover of this magazine a puff is used. This is a very effective feature as it is very eye catching. In this magazine the puff is used to show the price of the magazine. I like the use of puffs on magazine as i think they are interesting and appealing to the buyer. In my magazine i am going to use a puff to promote the magazine more.
The photograph-
The image on this magazine is a medium close up and the model is not looking straight into the camera. Also the photograph is in black and white, this gives the magazine a true vintage feel which will appeal to vintage lovers.
Banner-
Along the bottom of the magazine a banner is used. The use of a banner is to advertise other features of the magazine. The banner in this case is promoting some of the stories inside the magazine. This gives the reader a bigger insight into the magazine, and also could be used as a lure towards the buyer.
Cover stories-
On this magazine there is only two cover stories. I feel this is so because a lot of the information for what is inside the magazine is shown in the banner of the magazine.
Feature i might use-
On the magazine the features i find interesting and would consider using in my magazine is the use of music notes behind the masthead, i feel this symbol gives a clear indication to what the magazine is about.
I feel as though this magazine links to Hartleys genre theory. Hartley says "Agents of ideological closure". He believes that producers just stuck to a genre then the audience would get bored. With vintage magazines i feel this is the case are nowadays there is a big niche market for vintage music magazines.
From this magazine i really like how it has a really vintage feel about it, i feel this is because the background is coloured and the image used is white.

Q magazine frontcover research 8
This is 'Q' magazine cover featuring Amy Winehouse.
The masthead-
On the cover of this magazine the masthead is an outstanding feature. I feel the masthead stands out so much is due to the brightness of the red against the background colour of grey.
Banners-
The cover of this magazine only has one banner which goes across the top. The writing on the banner stands out as the text is white and is against the dark hair of the artist which makes it eye catching.
Headline-
The headline on this magazine is very short. "One year on...AMY". Due to the headline being so short it makes it interesting as it gives no clues to what the magazine is telling us about what has happened one year on and how that links to Amy Winehouse.
Strapline-
The strapline for this magazine says "NEW REVELATIONS ABOUT THE VOICE OF OUR TIME... AND HOW WE LOST HER". This is a feature of the magazine that would make it very appealing to the audience as it is revealing information of her death.
Photograph-
This photo of Amy Winehouse is very typical of her style. The photo is a medium close up and the model is looking directly into the camera. The fact she is looking into the camera makes it more emotive and personal to the reader/buyer.
Magazine producers 'Q' magazine is very popular and highly recognisable, this i feel is due to the house style. For this magazine the house style is the red box in the corner with the white 'Q'. This stands out and is a very eye catching feature of the magazine cover.
Aspects of this magazine i like is that throughout the cover they have kept the same house style, this is something i will consider using in my music magazine because is makes the magazine eye catching and highly recognisable.

Pop genre magazine research 7
I have researched pop genre music magazine covers. All these things have in common that they use bright colours which makes them appealing to the target audience on young girls. Also the magazine have well known artists on the front cover that the target audience could see as roll models. I like the use of bright colours on these magazines. These magazines are targeted at very much at teenage girls. All the models are looking directly into the camera. After this selection of magazines there is not many other brands which target there magazines at girl. I feel there is a gap in the market for a female magazine. Also some of these magazines are using a lure to attract people to buy them by giving away things such as free nail polish and makeup which attracts the younger audience. All of the artists on the covers are looking directly into the camera, this makes the magazine more personal as it gives the effect of looking at the reader which draws them in.
Things from these magazines that I might use for my magazine are the use of bright colours and the busy layout which makes the magazine look interesting and exciting.
Content Page Linking To Magazine Cover Research
The masthead is the most outstanding feature of this magazine. I feel this because the colour of the white is bright and bold against the blue background.
The main story on the cover is "PILLS! DEATH THREATS! DEEP SOUL". This is eye catching as its all in bold text, also there is not much more text on the cover so it stands out. I think that the headline "ELVIS" is written in a gold, san serif font because Elvis is seen as a star and this is shown by the gold stars used next to his picture. The use of gold gives me the impression of fame which is used appropriately for Elvis.
The contents page of this magazine breaks conventions, this is because the contents page starts on the back of the frontcover, which is not conventional.
The masthead of the frontcover is carried through onto the first page of the contents page. There is a picture of the artist on the cover on the contents page, but its from a different era of the artist. The second page of the contents page is filled of photographs of musicans and bands. These images link to the number in the list on the first contents page. There is 17 items on the list and there is 10 images. The first page of the contents page generally follows conventions apart from being on the back of the frontcover. The key words on the contents list are in bold so they standout more against the white background.
Things i like about this magazine cover and contents page is the collage on the second page of the contents. I think this looks creative and interesting and something i would consider using for my magazine.

Representation Theorists Research
Theorist Mulvey has influenced my in the creation of magazine, this is due to her theory of 'Male gaze'. For my magazine cover i want the image to appeal to both genders to have a mix gender target audience. I can create this multi-gender target audience by using the theory of 'Male gaze'.
