First draft of double page spread article.

Double page spread article-
Rosie is a young enthusiastic vintage fanatic who has an incredible passion for the return of vintage music. Rosie’s passion for singing first started when she was at primary school and got cast the part of Annie in the musical ‘Annie’. Ever since then she grew up and Rosie started participating in many singing and performing groups and has appeared in many musicals to this day. This talented girl grew up in Manchester; she went to Mulberry Bush primary in Manchester and then continued her education at St Peters RC high school. Rosie claimed ‘my school years were the best time of my life, until now’. Others hobbies of the talented include dance, horse riding and drama, Rosie’s mother states that ‘Rosie was always a hands on kind of girl, unlike her sister Maddie who got the brains of the family.
Rosie went to the University of London and studied music and musical theatre and ended with a degree in both these courses. Whilst she was at university she experienced being in the west end show ‘Hairspray’ as a chorus singer and dancer. She claims ‘being on the west end was a dream come true for a girl like me who always dreamed of preforming’.
After finishing university Rosie decided that she had to live her dreams of becoming a performer and after attending many auditions and casting call’s she finally got cast in her dream part of “Eponine” in les Miserables on the west end. Ever since then Rosie has been going from strength to strength and has stared in many west end show’s and has launched a successful career into the vintage music scene with many critics claiming her album “ Jitterbug” to be a call back to the roaring 50’s of the vintage music of the past 60 years. She has also been touring all over the country performing smaller sold out shows.

Today we sat down with the ever lovely and talented Rosie.
What was your first experience in vintage music?
My first experience in vintage music was watching the film “Some like it hot” and listening to Marilyn Monroe sing ever since then I knew I wanted to sing and be like her.
Has there been any hardship in your career?
When I was first starting out in the industry, nobody knew who I was and I couldn't get any work. I had very little money and moved into my friends flat but the dream of being a performer kept me alive and motivated to work and power through the difficult times.
What have you been working on since your latest album?
Ever since I released Jitter bug I’ve been working on some new songs for the next album, I’ve also been taking singing lessons as you always have room to improve as a performer even people your idolize have room to perform.
Have any advice for performers out there?
I would say to other people out there that it is a marathon not a race, if you put the time in and commit yourself to your dream it will pay off no matter what you want to be weather that be a performer or a writer.

Can we expect any surprises soon?
Lately with my backing band of Tom, Joe, Amy, Katie, Sophie, Robbie and Lauren we have been working on adaptations of popular songs to turn them into vintage jazz songs its really fun my favourite one we have done so far would have to be “Pompeii” by Bastille I really like singing our version and when we've done gigs people enjoy it.
That was our interview with the lovely as ever Rosie talking about her new exciting adventure. We wish Rosie the best of luck with her new adventures she encounters throughout the rest of her life.
Jukebox then talked to Rosie about vintage fashion and if she had any tips for vintage fanatics. We asked:
What do you look for when shopping for your vintage fashion?
‘I look for a variety of things. The main things that draw my to vintage fashion is the bright colours and bold patterns. I feel the colour and pattern of your clothing tells a lot about your personality.’
Do you prefer vintage fashion to modern fashion?

‘ yes, I feel vintage fashion is much more girly and the shape of the clothing really looks great on everybody, and gives them the opportunity to express themselves through the bright bold colours and patterns.’
That all from Jukebox's article on there latest rising star.

Images for my cover that i have created a colour pop on it.

This is my original image for the front cover of my vintage music magazine. This is how the image was taken, the crease in the background is very eye catching on the background, for the actual background i am going to edit the crease out to create a smooth background so the main focus is the photograph.
In this image you can see the dress being coloured in to change the colour, this will create a colour pop. I have changed the colour of the dress as i feel the blue makes the cover look less female because of the colour.

This is a screengrab of the finished colour pop on the flower. The brightness of the flower is contrasting against the black and white of the face and hair on the photograph. This colour is very eye catching and will attract the readers attention.

.This image is a screengrab that is showing how i created the colour pop. It is showing the layer mask that i used to keep the black images and the colour images separate whilst i worked on the rest.
This is the finished result of the colour pop i created.

After creating the colour pop i am really happy with the finished result. I feel the image really suits the genre of vintage since i am creating vintage with a modern theme.

Vintage music magazine hand drawn plans.

This is my hand drawn magazine front cover. The image is going to be colour popped, this is why the model is coloured in grey with red features. The lips, the dress and the writing around the image are all going to be coloured and the rest will be black and white. Also under the masthead there will be a photograph of a selection of records, I feel this adds a very vintage feel which contributes to the genre.

This is the contents page for my music magazine. I am using the masthead again on the contents page so it carries through the idea of the house style. I have decided to but a selection of images on this contents page so it makes it look interesting to the reader. Also at the top of the contents page next to the masthead there is a vinyl again, this also helps to continue to house style onto the contents page and throughout the magazine.

This is my double page spread plan for my vintage music magazine. I chose the idea of using three vinyls on the left hand page as i felt this creates a vintage feel, also the use of a polaroid effect on the pictures will make them look vintage with a modern twist. The headline of the magazine is in a vintage font as its big, bold and eye catching. Also the drop capital which will be used also will stand out against the rest of the article.

How research has influenced my planning and creativity.

Things that influenced me:

Front covers:

  • Factors from this cover that i like is the use of three colours all over the cover, as i feel it gives the magazine an interesting look.

  • For my magazine i would consider using the idea of colours and then a black and white feature, i like this as it suits the vintage genre but adds a modern twist to it.

  • The images used on this page link to the genre of this magazine as they all look old fashioned and dated. They have created the vintage theme by using vintage style clothing.

  • Elements i particularly like that i might use for my magazine is the use of one colour that clearly stand out against the rest, and also that the headline is a lot bigger than the cover stories which makes it more luring to the target audience.

  • From this cover I like the use of black and white with coloured features.

  • I like that the headline it is an outstanding feature against the dull background.

Double page spread:

  • Factors from this double page spread i will consider using is the large image of the record laid on top of all the record cases, i feel this gives a very vintage theme but with a modern twist. I feel as though this will interest a younger target audience into reading vintage magazines.

  • From this double page spread i like the idea of a big black and white image as i feel it creates a vintage feel, this is something i will consider using in my magazine double page spread.

  • From this double page spread i am going to consider using the idea of everything black, grey and white and then the feature of colour. As i feel this is modern and interesting.

  • I like how there is not a lot of text used on this dps, it makes it more interesting and appealing to the reader.
Contents:

  • From this contents page i will consider using the way the photographs are collaged as i feel it makes the page look interesting to the reader, due to a selection of pictures in different sizes.

  • I like this contents page as the writing is really clear amongst all the pictures.

  • I also like the fact that there is a lot going on and it looks really busy.

I feel as though this magazine links to Hartleys genre theory. Hartley says "Agents of ideological closure". He believes that producers just stuck to a genre then the audience would get bored. With vintage magazines i feel this is the case are nowadays there is a big niche market for vintage music magazines.
