Target audience research for draft of frontcover, contents and dps.

Target audience research-draft of front cover, contents and double page spread
The first question I asked for my target audience research was “Can you identify the music genre from the front cover?” It was very clear from my results that my target audience understood what the music genre of my magazine was, and that it clearly was vintage.
The next question I asked was “Is synergy created between the pages and how?” The results from this question were a mixture. Some respondents replied yes, due to items such as the use of red, fonts and the use of black. But then others replied no due to originally having three different background colours which does not create synergy. To corrected this I made the front cover and contents page have the same colour background and through all pages used the colour scheme of red, blue and black which has helped for me to improve the synergy of my pages.

Next I asked “are there iconic, symbolic or indexical signs, and what are they?” from this question the answers I got were mainly including the use of the records and the costumes I used for my photographs. The use of the vintage dresses makes the genre of the magazine very noticeable and very typical of its genre.

The next question I asked was “what do you think the target audience is, age and gender?” from the answers it is clear that the target audience is from 16-20+ and that the magazine is very female based due to the fashion and beauty aspects of the magazine.

Then I asked “what representations are created?” the answers from this question were youthfulness, vintage dresses, hair and makeup styles and modern vintage. Also that the magazine is very female based.

The next question I asked was whether respondents believed if the magazine was formal or informal and the majority of the respondents said that the magazine was formal due to no slang or swear words being used.

Finally, the last question I asked was “is there anything missing from the magazine?” and the only feature respondents felt to be missing was not enough on the front cover. So I have changed the front cover and added more information on.

Draft of frontcover

Favourite 9 photos on Flickr for target research.

Organisation of costumes.

For my shoots I provided all of the costumes, i brought all four of the 50's dresses to the shoot. I provided them all as i feel the colours of my dresses worked well together. Also i provided the flowers that some of the models were wearing. These are the costumes that i used for all of the photo-shoots due to taking pictures in different locations and different poses from the models.

Organisation of equipment/ models.

I emailed all of the models informing them of what they needed to bring and what time to arrive and what time and date the shoot will be. Luckily all the models was able to attend. These are the dates i got all of my photo's taken, this is due to on the second date I took the models to a few different locations to take pictures. This is the organisation i used for both of my shoots. Also i gave my models a copy of the photo-shoot plan so they had an idea of what I was attending to achieve during the photo shoots.
